West Thames college logistics student of the year winner

 

 

West Thames college engaged with logistics operators, employers as next generation took centre stage at the Inst of Couriers, National Courier Awards 2024, a full house, standing room only and web impact off the scale as social media exploded with the story of everyday heroes who had delivered for the sector and their clients. It was a historic turnout, with largest mix of express companies ever. Twenty-five individual winners, from two-wheel to office. The very first winner was next generation, the apprentice winner. It was a student from the Heathrow logistics hotspot, who had already taken a win for Student of the Year at West Thames College.

Awards opened for next generation with learning at the head of the celebrations. West Thames College Principal, Tracy Aust was called to stage, joining the Deputy Director of DFE, Institute for Apprentices, Nick, Mawhinney and University of West London Vice Chancellor Peter John. Shortlisters were on the edge of their seats as Dr Tracey Worth explained: 'winners of the independent, unsponsored awards of the Institute of Couriers are the best-kept secret in our sector, the winners only finding out as they are called to the stage.'

The call to stage for Apprentice of the Year 2024 was Aaron Bennett from dnata logistics. Aaron was chosen for national recognition having scored top student of the year during his level three apprenticeship at West Thames College while based at dnata Heathrow. Recognised for best in class as IT solutions technology apprentice at dnata Heathrow. Principal of top logistics college West Thames, Tracy Aust commented, ‘Our students fulfil their dreams, winners this evening stand out from the crowd. Well done to the logistics cohort, you should be very proud.’

The sector of logistics celebrated its presidential corporate awards. The coveted Step Change category win went to Police National Business Crime team for evolution of Code 42, mail and parcel theft codes focused on incidents at vehicle. DFE & IFA were on stage to celebrate logistics Apprentice winner. Traffic Commissioner Sarah Bell with DfT & DVSA to celebrate David Jamieson Road Safety win for Whistl. Lyndsey Cracknell in the room from DEFRA to celebrate Eco- Decarbonisation double with wins for TfL and HBC Logistics. Collaboration wins for DPD Guide Dog initiative and Viking DX pairing A second Team award for FedEx Basildon Essex Fire support. City of London livery hall was the venue, as logisticians, guests and colleagues brought down the roof with a crescendo of rattles from clapper hands of the Inst of Couriers. National Courier Awards was the largest mix of companies ever

SMEs, Regional’s and National brands at the same tables. DfT, DFE, DEFRA, DVSA all in the room. 'Lights camera action' for the gala evening celebration of the 28th National Courier Awards hosted by the Institute of Couriers. A full house, near 300 guests, standing room only and many were standing for standing ovations, as they rattled their clappers. IOC delivered the Curly Wurlys to a post code index of tables for a gala dinner followed by stilt walkers and light dancing; setting the tone of celebration for what has become a unique approach to recognising the best of the best in final mile. Tweets by the bucketload, photos live on the web as Carl Lomas and Dr Tracey Worth read narratives to bring a tear to the eye from the winning reports of 2024. Handing out the wins, IOC President, former Sec of State for Transport, Lord Patrick McLoughlin and Vice President, former transport minister, Sir John Hayes CBE.
